So this post is a note to both SEO people and people who need SEO.įor the SEO people - please start teaching people what you do! Take the time to not just sell your services, but make your clients really understand what you're doing. And she now understands what I do.Įverything we know can be taught and understood by even the most SEO-intimidated person out there. My mother, Kim Baker, is TERRIFIED, terrified of numbers. ![]() I know that I'm daring to sound like the Bob Ross of SEO right now, and that's totally fine with me. I'm here to tell you that this is completely BS.ĪNYONE can learn SEO and make their business thrive. ![]() That's why it seems so intimidating and inaccessible. And most SEO people are also normal folks with normal intelligence levels.īut the industry has built a moat around this discipline. I'm a normal dude with a normal intelligence level. Nor have we been trained in doctorate-level stuff. Us SEO folks aren't "gifted" with innate talents. The "black box" is completely INTENTIONAL. The problem: SEO is NOT meant to be available to normal people. I've struggled against a frustrating fact about the SEO industry for years that I want to set straight. #seo #google #contentwriters #content #contentmarketing Overall this is a very good thing for search. They’re going to have to strive to immerse themselves in their specialty.Īnd they’re going to have to have opinions on what they’re writing about.Īnd they’re going to have to demonstrate that they’ve TRIED what they’re recommending. They’re going to need to further specialize! What does that mean for content creators? There will be no replacement for original ideas and first-hand knowledge. These original thoughts and ideas (that the internet has never seen before) need to be published. ![]() Pretty simple: subject matter experts need to create content. The content was written for SEO rather than from a place of originality. This is why you’re seeing a lot of niche sites start to crash. They are writers, who we desperately need!Īnd many of them write very well! But many DON’T have "expertise" in an area. This is going to be a BIG problem for lots of content writers because most content writers aren’t subject matter experts… If you don’t have first-hand experience, Google is going to know. If you research a topic online and write about it, it won’t be considered expertly-written. That content isn’t going to perform anymore! That’s rehashed thought - it’s not expertise. Think about when you were in college and you had to write a research paper. In other words, Google is looking for ORIGINAL thought, rather than REHASHED thought. It means Google is looking for content written by people who have a high degree of expertise in what they’re writing about. Google’s Experience update (E-EAT) is something you SHOULD be concerning yourself over immediately. So that means a page can’t just win outright anymore because it’s part of a strong website. Google is now attempting to return the best pages based on the intent of the searcher. Most websites aren’t huge powerhouses, so I’m talking to most of you readers right now. It was truly the 1% claiming 99% of the market. In other words, established websites could rank for keywords…just because they were big websites!Īnd they could get away with thin content and obnoxious ads! (Looking at you, Forbes!) Google leaned on link profiles a lot more than it does today. Imagine your awesome new website with a 23 Domain Authority trying to outrank some goliath with an 83 Domain Authority.įorget it…you’re knocked out before even walking in the ring! Walk through this journey with me as I outline exactly how one smaller websites can now BEAT the socks off complacent, larger websites.īack in the olden days of SEO, we never stood a chance at outranking major websites. How is it that a website with a Domain Authority of 19 is absolutely smoking a website with a DA of 86!? How smaller websites can outrank larger websites. ![]()
